Come to your Senses

"Living in a world full of sensory inputs...
It is by meeting the sensory challenges of daily living
that we prepare ourselves to overcome the greater challenges of life".

The Come To Your Senses Conference creates a meeting place for professionals from varied disciplines to present their sensory related research findings. It is also a place where practitioners can present a variety of treatment and educational modalities and their applications in programs provided to people with disabilities. It is a place where parents to children and adults with disabilities are able to share the wisdom they have gained through supporting their kids. And it is a place in which people with disabilities are able to have a voice that expresses their life experiences, challenges and the ways by which they cope with and overcome them.

This year’s Come To Your Senses Conference focuses on Creating Supportive Environments to Nurture the Sensory Capital Within. Sensory Capital is a new concept I developed and defined in the summer of 2008. It expresses the potential that exists within each one of us, including persons with disabilities, to overcome sensory challenges. It also refers to the resiliency to face and overcome these challenges if proper opportunities and supports are provided in physical and human environments that are supporting, nurturing, and accepting.

I look forward to seeing you in October 2009!
